Ready to Burn is a certification scheme for solid fuels including firewood in England. It ensures that these fuels meet specific standards for moisture content and emissions.
Moisture content: The fuel must have a moisture content of 20% or less. This is crucial, as burning wet wood can produce significant particulate emissions and reduce the efficiency of stoves.
Benefits:
Improved air quality: Ready to Burn fuels are proven to burn with less smoke and harmful emissions, reducing environmental pollution.
Increased efficiency: Dry fuels burn more efficiently, reducing waste and improving stove performance.
Consumer confidence: The certification mark ensures that consumers can identify solid fuels that are legal to burn at home, compliant with Air Quality Regulations, and suitable for use in modern stoves.
Air-dried firewood is naturally dried over a number of months or years. The moisture content of all of our air-dried products is below 20%, and so is ready to burn immediately.
We also sell semi-seasoned air-dried firewood in loads, usually during the summer months, for clients to store and complete the drying process to below 20% moisture. If you'd like to find out more about our semi-seasoned firewood, please give us a call.
The amount of firewood you need depends on your usage. For occasional home fires, our net bags might be most suitable. For regular use, especially during colder months, larger orders like a 3m³ tipper truck delivery might be more appropriate. If unsure, please contact us for advice based on your needs.
Yes, we recommend stacking your firewood in a well-ventilated area to keep it dry and ready to burn. If you've ordered semi-seasoned logs, proper stacking will allow them to finish the seasoning process. For all wood products, stacking helps maintain its low moisture content.
If space is a concern, we recommend discussing your delivery options with us beforehand. We offer flexible delivery methods, including crane drop-offs and loose-tipped deliveries. Just ensure there is enough space for our vehicle and for the wood to be safely offloaded.
All our kiln-dried and air-dried products are Woodsure certified, meaning they meet the strict standards of the Ready to Burn scheme. This ensures our wood is properly seasoned and low in moisture, helping reduce emissions and improve burning efficiency.
Yes, semi-seasoned firewood needs further drying before it’s ready to burn. Store it in a well-ventilated area to complete the seasoning process.
Yes, we recommend storing your firewood in a dry, well-ventilated area off the ground. For air-dried logs, stack them loosely to allow air circulation, and avoid covering them with tarps that trap moisture. A covered, open-sided structure like a wood shed is ideal.
